Walls up!

Well wow what a difference the internal walls make. It feels like a home already. Walking through I could feel the size of the place. Nice open areas which is what I love about beechwoods designs. The rooms are huge to me. I love it all except I wanted the entire living area to be at the back of the house that opened up onto the back yard. Beechwood didnt have a design like this, so in one of our tenders we modified it which was costly. We changed our minds to save money and got the terrazzo on the side. It will however be more private this way, as we have no back neighbours and people walk along it and there is a road above looking down on us and eventually houses will be built there. Also it faces the west and the sun beats in the afternoon as it sets, so it will be better for the afternoon heat in summer.  Yes there are practical benefits of having it this way but from a aesthetic design aspect I am not that impressed. But overall I am happy with the design. We have made heaps of improvements from our first beechwood home. Its going to be amazing to move in and enjoy it.

Gyprock!

So excited to see our insulation sitting in the garage after last week being so slow. Next day (yesterday) it was gone and replaced with a huge pile of gyprock sheets. I went past today to a great surprise, we have plasterers on site putting up the walls. It seems to be all moving at a steady pace. Cant wait to see the walls all up.

A slow week. Gas done.

From a very busy week to a very slow week. The joys of building, so many high and low points. You know when the build is nearly finished because you are so over and sick of the whole process. They completed the plumbing and installed the gas rough ins. They started painting under the eaves but that's it probably a few hours worth of work in a week. My husband found a mistake with the plumbing. A fitting has been clamped on backwards. He said it wasn't leaking and wondering if he should mention it to the site manager. It means the section will have to be cut out and re done. Not sure if its worth it as it seems secure. Might have to check in with the SS today to see how we are going. Our neighbours are flying ahead they are up to painting. This is the neighbour that started a good 2 months before us but it seems they have workers on site everyday. I haven't seen anyone on our site for over a week now. I know little things are getting done but it has seemed to be slowing up.

Busy week!

Its been a busy week at the block. They finished the roof in record time working throughout the hot weather. I visited again at the end of the week thinking nothing was being done as the electrician was due on Thursday. I got a surprise when I arrived at the block. It had been cleaned up, eaves installed, electrician and NBN rough in complete and kitchen marked out, range hood flue in. Now we are waiting on insulation and then pre-lock up stage will be complete. Next will be lock up stage when the doors, plaster and garage door get installed.  It was wonderful walking through it.

The Small Grey House

I think I should change my blog name to the grey house or 50 shades of grey haha. Everything is grey from the bricks to the tiles and carpet and dont forget the roof. Once the house is complete we will have a grey driveway and grey painted walls. We also have a grey car and a grey cat.

Roof in 38 degree heat.

Another crazy hot day, after another long hot night. The roofers still into it today. This was taken about 11am so I guess they got an early start. Still so hot at 11am especially with such a dark colour to work with. I think they're amazing. I am loving the colour, its monument. we picked a dark colour because it will fade over time and then it will still look like a mid grey. My neighbour must have the same colour. Hopefully they wont have the same garage colour to set us apart. They also have a different facade and brick colour.

Looks like sand on the hill behind my house. Its not! its a weed mesh they have put down.

Plumber has arrived

The brick layers finished up on Monday. We've had 2 days of tumble weeds. Today looks like the plumber is there. I saw green cables/pipes, so I am guessing he is running the rainwater drainage pipes. I dont really care what he is doing, I am just glad it is moving forward.

Looking forward to the roof going on. We've had a great run with the weather so far. It has been really hot days in the high 30's but the trades seem to start early and still get loads done.

I am always interested in real estate so I regularly check the real estate pages for listed houses and prices in my area. I dont know why I am thinking it might be my hobby. Anyway I saw our direct neighbours have listed their house. I thought it was going to be a show home but I was wrong. They have listed it for a massive 1.3. It has no yard and a house directly behind looking in. I am wondering if they will get that price. I know the area is highly sort after especially with cashed up Sydney buyers. I will keep you posted. I dont think we would get that much for our place. It is smaller but we dont have back neighbours and is flat so I am not sure wht we would get. If we could get 1.3 we would sell it for sure and do it all again, build I mean. Anyway that's a while away yet. We might love living there and it might not be worth the hassle. We will see.
